Welcome to the Pepkor Cyber-Security and Privacy Blog.
Cyber-Security is a fascinating topic, and something the team is extremely passionate about. It's also a critical requirement for running a sustainable business in this extremely connected world we live in. It's very important to be vigilant both in a work and personal capacity because there are plenty of bad guys out there who are after your and the company's money and data or are just trying to cause disruption and inconvenience.
To quote Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars - A New Hope: "You'll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious!" This applies as much to the internet as it did to the bar in Mos Eisley.
Keeping Pepkor safe and secure is everyone's responsibility. This includes all staff, consultants, contractors, 3rd parties etc. This is why we send out quite a few security communications every month. Awareness is so important and we're really trying to make sure everyone has a base-line awareness. Any person or system can be the entry point for a cyber-attack, even if they themselves don't have access to anything particularly sensitive or valuable. Every username and password is valuable to criminals as a way to get a foothold into our environment and move from there to gain more access.
There is so much more that we would love to share with you around this topic but don't want to over-burden you with information. We're also aware that interest in cyber-security and privacy topics varies dramatically. We wanted to start this blog as a way to share more information around pertinent topics and have discussions with those who are interested to learn more. We'd love this to become a place of dialog and discussion around the risks and security issues seen out in the broader Pepkor community. We welcome questions, comments, praise and criticisms.
We hope this blog adds value to those in the Pepkor Group who are interested in these topics. We'll also be discussing several topics not specifically business related, such as personal and family cyber-security and privacy advice.
Thanks for stopping by. Be safe!
